The beat tape, featuring 18 tracks, has a run time of 28 minutes. Sonically, the project is suffused with sultry, lush tracks that bridge the gap between Hip Hop, Jazz and R&B/Soul. The film and spoken cut-ups sprinkled throughout give the record cinematic decor. The album is stylized like the popular Read-Along records of the 70’s and 80’s. APT L kicks off with a narrator instructing listeners with an audio cue to “turn the page” when the chime sounds. Lovers of producers in the mold of Dilla, Pete Rock and 9th Wonder will find a familiar yet unique interpretation of the Boom Bap artistry that marks Hip Hop golden era. A Prelude to LOVE is an excellent table-setting offering that may well offer clues as to the subject matter Reach will later cover in his forthcoming studio album.
